ABSTRACT: Ferrer, N. C. & Cáceres, E. J. 2001. New records of Zygnemataceae (Zygnematales, Chlorophyta) for the American continent. Darwiniana 39(3-4): 209-213.

Two species of Zygnemataceae, Spirogyra nyctigama and Zygnema subcylindricum, are recorded, described and illustrated for the first time for the American continent. A third species, Z. synadelphum, is first reported from South America, being this the southernmost record of this species in the western hemisphere. The study was carried out in the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Dos especies de Zygnemataceae, Spirogyra nyctigama y Zygnema subcylindricum, se citan, describen e ilustran por primera vez para el continente americano. Una tercera, Z. synadelphum, se menciona por primera vez para Sudamérica, siendo éste el registro más austral para esta especie en el hemisferio occidental. El estudio se llevó a cabo en la provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
